HCJB's website has the following to say about their work with clean water in Ecuador:
The vision of Vozandes Community Development is to facilitate sustaining physical and spiritual transformation of communities through restored relationships with God, each other and the created world.
Healthy people know how to care of themselves, their community and their environment. They also understand the importance of good spiritual health – of the forgiveness, restoration and hope that come only through Jesus Christ.
With God’s help we facilitate these transformations through our expertise in water and sanitation projects, medical caravans, rural health education and training to serve needy rural communities and peripheral urban areas.
Clean water projects provide safe drinking water and sanitation to rural communities. In Ecuador for example, many communities have no access to safe drinking water. Community wells with hand pumps and potable water systems with a connection to each home are built to meet this need. Health/hygiene teaching, water system maintenance training and follow-up are provided to improve the health benefits and assure sustainability.
In each project, the benefiting community provides the manual labor and the majority of the resources needed. Evangelism, discipleship, pastoral and church lay leadership training is integral to every project. This ministry is funded by HCJB Global Hands’ donors, churches, partnering charitable organizations and government agencies.
More than 200 Ecuadorian communities now know the benefits of improved access to water and sanitation and many people have found hope and meaning to life through Jesus Christ.

This summer, I have a chance to take part in this amazing work for 6 weeks. There will be 7 of us "summer missionaries" who will be working with HCJB in Shell, Ecuador this year. 3 of the girls will be working in Hospital Vozandes del Oriente in Shell as nurses. The other girl will be working with business and administration at the hospital. Finally, the 3 of us guys will be working on the water projects, using engineering.
The details of what I'll get to do--I'm not sure yet. I expect a mix between office work, such as drawing schematics using AutoCad, and field work, visiting the communities we'll be installing water systems in and surveying or digging trenches.
Regardless, I'm excited to get to see firsthand how missions and engineering can be used side by side to share the love of Jesus.
